CAMP 2021 UPDATE:

PLANNING FOR camp CUBBER 2021 is well underway.  We are

working to provide a summer camp experience that is both incredibly fun and incredibly safe.  while you will find many details below, we are still fine tuning what camp 2021 will exactly look like, so Please continue to check back often for updated information!

As you see, camp will only be 7 weeks this summer.  With school getting out significantly later, while still going back in early august, that leaves us with 7 weeks.  What does that mean?  We will have to jam-pack as much fun as possible into those 7 amazing weeks!

what to expect for summer 2021

REQUIRED NUMBER OF WEEKS

We will not be requiring enrollment in all weeks this summer.  That said, we will require a minimum number of weeks (3 or more out of 7) in order to register.  We believe this will help keep groups moderately stable while also allowing for greater flexibility than we were able to provide last summer.   Also, after we reach 75% of our projected capacity, PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN to families registering for 6 or more total weeks.

CANCELATIONS

More than ever, it is extremely important that you only sign your child up for the weeks they will attend this summer.  After registering, if you cancel a week by June 1, there will be a 50% cancelation charge.  Cancelations after June 1 will still require full payment.

GROUP SIZES / CAMP SIZE

Target group sizes will be 15 - 16 students.  Similar to last summer, camp groups will not mix for classes / activities, particularly indoors.  Some larger events will occur in the sanctuary or multi purpose room with multiple groups in the same room, but adequate social distancing will be in place.  Some larger events may also occur outdoors.  Total camp enrollment will be limited to approximately 2/3 of our normal camp attendance in previous summers.

FACE MASKS

While we know no one really loves wearing a face mask, we have seen throughout this school year that school age children are capable of wearing them throughout the day (and have done so with great attitudes and resilience).  We also continue to be reminded about the importance of wearing a face mask in the slowing / preventing the spread of COVID-19.  As such, we will be requiring face masks for all parents, staff, and campers while on campus.  Campers and staff will be required to wear a face mask when being transported to / from campus on all field trips.  Students will be required to wear a face mask or when indoors and around other students (for regular classroom activities).  Students will not be required to wear a face mask during outdoor play, while eating meals / snacks, or while drinking.  In addition, if we are able to appropriately physically distance for specific indoor activities, face masks may not be required of students during those times. If you have questions about the face mask policy please be sure to speak with the Director prior to enrolling in the program.  As this situation is “fluid”, face mask expectations are subject to change based on the recommendation of the CDC and Florida Department of Health.

HOURS

Camp CUBBER 2021 will be offered from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily.  The camp activity day will be from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with extended care provided before / after those times.  Campers should plan to arrive by 9:00 AM and no later than 9:15 AM.  Campers who do not arrive by 9:15 AM will be considered absent for the day unless prior arrangements have been made through the camp office.  Similarly, campers may be picked up anytime between 3:45 PM - 6:00 PM.  If you need to pick your child up before that time, you will need to make arrangements (in advance) through the camp office.  Drop off and pick up procedures are listed below.

FIELD TRIPS / ONSITE ACTIVITIES

We are pleased to announce that we WILL BE taking field trips for Camp CUBBER 2021!  We are planning on bringing back one off site field trip per week (for all age groups) this summer... but we will of course be doing those as safely as possible.  That means fields trips will either be at outdoor / open air locations, be at locations where we will be able to rent the entire facility and therefore limit interaction with other groups and the public, or be at locations where we believe face masks and safety protocols will be strictly adhered to.  To be as safe as possible, we will also be limiting the number of campers on transportation and not intermixing group seating on the same transportation.  Some transportation may have more than one group, but will have buffer / barrier seats or rows in between groups.  Campers will also enjoy at least one special onsite activity and one fun spirit day each week as well.  Those will be listed on the field trip / activity schedule once finalized (prior to the start of registration).

COST

Camp CUBBER 2021 weekly tuition will be $155 for campers in K - 4th grade, and $165 for campers in 5th - 8th grade.  Session 4 (July 6 - 9) will be offered at a discounted rate of $120 (K - 4th) / $130 (5th - 8th) since we will be CLOSED on Monday, July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

MEALS / SNACKS

Meal plan will not be offered for Summer 2021.  Because safety is our top priority, having multiple groups eating in a cafeteria still does not make sense this summer.  Campers will need to bring a lunch from home daily (and campers will eat in their classrooms).  We are happy to announce that we will again provide a pizza lunch on Fridays for all campers at no additional cost (included in your tuition).  Pizza lunch will include one or two slices of pizza, chips, dessert, and drink.  If you feel like that will not be enough lunch for your child, you are obviously welcome to pack a supplemental lunch on Fridays.  Camp will also continue to offer afternoon snack (also included).

DROP-OFF (AND STUDENT TEMPERATURE CHECK)

In the morning, we will offer car circle from 7:00 AM - 9:15 AM.  Using the car circle will be the only way to drop off campers in the morning.  Campers will be assigned to one of three drop-off locations (based on grade of the child).  When you pull up to the assigned spot, you will be able to check your child in with a staff member.  If there is a line, please note that campers must remain in their vehicle until driver is able to pull up to the check in staff.  Parents must remain at the drop-off location until camper is temperature checked each morning.  Campers with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be admitted to camp for the day.  Once his / her temperature has been checked, the child will be taken to the appropriate classroom by a secondary staff.  Families with campers in multiple age groups may have to visit multiple check-in locations.  While projected enrollment numbers are smaller than previous summers, with 3 check in locations and because of this new process including temperature checks (and the fact that you may need to visit more than one drop off location), you will want to ensure you have more time allotted for morning drop-off.  As mentioned above, if your child is not present by 9:15 AM when car circle closes, he / she will be considered absent for the day.

PICK-UP (AND PARENT TEMPERATURE CHECK)

We will not be offering an “express” style of pickup as in previous summers as there is no safe way to have that many campers (from different groups) in a room, or even multiple rooms, together.  Instead, between 3:45 PM and 6:00 PM you will need to park and come into the building using the double doors underneath the large blue overhang to pick your child up.  Again pick up time should occur between the hours of 3:45 PM and 6:00 PM.  Advance notice will be needed if pickup must occur outside of those times.  Parents picking up WILL NEED TO WEAR A FACE MASK.  Parent pickup will be straight down that main hallway, with the entry to the camp area just before the sanctuary's lobby doors.  While in line, parents should be standing 6 ft. apart (as marked).  Similar to campers and staff, parents will be temperature checked upon arrival (prior to heading to their child's room).  Parents will be granted access in a timed manner (allowing the parent in front of you time to get out of the current hallway and to their child’s classroom).  Parents should not be going inside camp classrooms again this summer.  As with drop-off, because of this new process you will want to allot yourself additional time for pickup as well.

STAFFING

Most groups will have 2 group leaders working opposite shifts.  One group leader will work a morning shift, and one will work an afternoon shift.  These will primarily be the same group leaders interacting with your child throughout the course of the summer.  We hope that campers will establish fantastic relationships with their group leaders again this summer as that has always been one of the best parts of Camp CUBBER.  And with fewer campers per group than most previous summers, camp staff will have more time to spend with each child.  All camp staff will also be temperature checked before their shift and camp staff will wear face masks when around children or parents.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Being active is a big part of camp and that won’t change!  Campers will have both indoor and an outdoor active play time.  Indoor active play will be in the gymnasium or another larger room and outdoor active play will be on the playground, field, court, etc.  Both indoor and outdoor active play time will still be with only the campers in their group.  Play equipment will be cleaned / sanitized before and after each use.  There will also be active games as part of the regular daily camp activities in each group’s room.

ROOM ROTATION / CLASSES

Out of an abundance of caution, campers will not be constantly rotating rooms throughout the camp day like they would have back in 2019.  Campers will have a homeroom where extended care, lunch, group activities, as well as many of their other daily activities will occur.  That said, campers will have the opportunity to leave their homeroom several times throughout the day including for: indoor active play, twice for outdoor active play (weather permitting), a visit to the game room or build & play (which will be cleaned in between groups), and of course for field trips and special onsite activities.  In addition, campers will enjoy both art and STEM as a classroom teacher visits each room to do projects with each group.  Plus, group leaders will be provided with materials, curriculum, and technical assistance to do several camp style activities during the day including things like art, STEM, music, group games, and more.

CLEANING

Perhaps it goes without saying, but as we are taking all of the above listed precautions, we are also adding to our already stringent cleaning practices.  Campers will wash hands regularly (and always before and after doing things like going to / from active play, going to use the bathroom, or even playing a group game in the classroom with any shared materials, etc.).  Hand washing will be done in the presence of a staff member to make sure it is being done appropriately and hand sanitizer will be used if / when a staff member cannot directly observe hand washing (or a sink is not available).  Classrooms will continue to be thoroughly cleaned at night and areas that are likely “hot spots” like doorknobs, handles, faucets, and shared play equipment will be cleaned / sanitized rigorously.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of camp cubber!

Lots of field trips & activities
Lots of daily activities
Lots of hands-on learning

Every week of camp is fun and unique!  Each week will feature its own theme and campers will enjoy a different field trip and special onsite activities each week.

Campers will experience a variety of classes and activities each day, with different fun activities every 45 minutes during the camp activity day!

While summer camp is designed to be fun, it is also designed to give opportunities for hands-on learning through science, art, creative writing & reading, and more!

Are you ready to give your child the summer of his or her dreams?  You’ve come to the right place.  Camp CUBBER, Florida’s largest Christian summer day camp offers the perfect camp experience for your rising Kindergarten - 8th Grade child.  Camp activities occur from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with FREE EXTENDED CARE before and after from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

But being this big didn’t happen overnight.  Camp CUBBER has been in business serving the families of north Pinellas (and beyond) for over 25 years!  And one of the best parts of camp is that it is big enough to offer all of the great classes, activities, and events that you would expect from a top notch summer camp, while keeping group sizes and teacher / student ratios low (target of 1:16 on site / 1:8 offsite for summer 2021) and offering age appropriate classrooms.

What’s our secret?  Great staff, great activities, and great programming in a safe and family friendly environment.  We work hard to ensure that your child has the best and safest summer possible.  Campers participate in a fun field trip plus a special onsite activity and a fun spirit day each week.  And on non field trip / special activity days students will experience activities like STEM, art, creative writing and reading, music and drama, game room, life skills, sports and recreation and much more!  It’s almost too much fun to fit into one summer!
