here are some details about the changes to camp

2020 and what to expect this summer:

DATES

We plan to start camp on June 1 and are expecting it to run though July 31 as originally planned.

REQUIRED NUMBER OF WEEKS

While there are many significant impacts on / changes to Camp CUBBER for 2020, potentially the biggest change is that campers will not be able to come just a week here or there.  In order to keep groups as stable as possible, campers must either be enrolled for all 9 weeks OR be enrolled in one of two half summer sessions in order to be eligible for camp this year.  Families who enroll in all 9 weeks may elect to take one “vacation week” with written notice provided at least 5 business days in advance and only pay half of the regular weekly fee listed above for that week.  Otherwise weekly fees will be required for all 9 weeks.  Families who enroll in one of the half summer options do not qualify for a vacation week and will owe for all for all of the weeks of that half.

GROUP SIZES / CAMP SIZE

As we start camp, groups will currently be limited to 9 students.  Thanks to the stable attendance, those should be the same students throughout the course of the summer.  While fairly unlikely, should the CDC / health officials determine that more students can be added to a group, we will consider adding up to 4 additional students to a group.  Also, because group size is limited to 9 campers, total camp enrollment will be less than half of previous summers.

HOURS

Camp CUBBER 2020 will be offered from 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM daily.  The camp activity day will be from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with extended care provided before / after those times.  Campers should plan to arrive by 9:00 AM and no later than 9:30 AM.  Campers who do not arrive by 9:30 AM will be considered absent for the day unless prior arrangements have been made through the camp office.  Similarly, campers may be picked up anytime between 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM.  If you need to pick your child up before that time, you will need to make arrangements (in advance) through the camp office.  Drop off and pick up procedures are listed below.

FIELD TRIPS

We will not be taking off site field trips for Camp CUBBER 2020.  While field trips have previously been a big part of our camp experience for many years, they would also pose the biggest potential of exposing campers (via transportation and the field trip location).  Also, not having off-site field trips will better allow us to focus on safe and fun on-site activities.

COST

Camp CUBBER 2020 weekly tuition will remain at $149 for all campers (and middle school campers will now be $149 as well).  Please note that even without field trips, camp tuition must remain the same to offset the incredible increase in payroll / staffing due to the significantly smaller allowed group sizes.

MEALS / SNACKS

Meal plan will not be offered for Summer 2020.  Again, because safety is our top priority, eating in a cafeteria simply does not make sense this summer.  Campers will need to bring a lunch from home daily (and campers will eat in their classrooms).  We are happy to announce that we will provide a pizza lunch on Fridays for all campers this summer at no additional cost (included in your tuition).  Pizza lunch will include one or two slices of pizza, chips, dessert, and drink.  If you feel like that will not be enough lunch for your child, you are obviously welcome to pack a supplemental lunch on Fridays.  Camp will also continue to offer afternoon snack (also included).

DROP-OFF (AND STUDENT TEMPERATURE CHECK)

In the morning, we will offer car circle from 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM.  Using the car circle will be the only way to drop off campers in the morning.  Campers will be assigned one of three drop-off locations (based on grade of the child).  When you pull up to the assigned spot, you will be able to check your child in with a staff member.  If there is a line, please note that campers must remain in their vehicle until driver is able to pull up to the check in staff.  Parents must remain at the drop-off location until camper is temperature checked each morning.  Campers with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be admitted to camp for the day.  Once his / her temperature has been checked, the child will be taken to the appropriate classroom by a secondary staff.  Families with campers in multiple age groups may have to visit multiple check-in locations.  While enrollment numbers are less than half of previous summers, with 3 check in locations and because of this new process including temperature checks (and the fact that you may need to visit more than one drop off location), you will want to ensure you have more time allotted for morning drop-off.  As mentioned above, if your child is not present by 9:30 AM when car circle closes, he / she will be considered absent for the day.

PICK-UP

We will not be offering an “express” style of pickup as in previous summers as there is no safe way to have that many campers (from different groups) in a room, or even multiple rooms, together.  Instead, between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM you will need to park and come into the building using the double doors underneath the large blue overhang to pick your child up.  Again pick up time should occur between the hours of 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.  Advance notice will be needed if pickup must occur outside of those times.  Parents picking up WILL NEED TO WEAR A FACE MASK.  Parent pickup will be straight down that main hallway, with the entry to the camp area just before the sanctuary's lobby doors.  While in line, parents should be standing 6 ft. apart (as marked).  Parents will be granted access in a timed manner (allowing the parent in front of you time to get out of the current hallway and to their child’s classroom).  Parents WILL NOT be permitted inside the camp classrooms this summer.  As with drop-off, because of this new process you will want to allot yourself additional time for pickup as well.

STAFFING

Most groups will have 2 group leaders working opposite shifts.  One group leader will work a morning shift, and one will work an afternoon shift.  These will primarily be the same group leaders interacting with your child throughout the course of the summer.  We hope that campers will establish fantastic relationships with their group leaders this summer as that has always been one of the best parts of Camp CUBBER.  And now with only 9 campers per group, camp staff will have even more time to spend with each child.  All camp staff will also be temperature checked before their shift and camp staff will wear face masks when around children or parents.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Being active is a big part of camp and that won’t change!  Campers will have both indoor and an outdoor active play time.  Indoor active play will be in the gymnasium or another larger room and outdoor active play will be on the playground, field, court, etc.  Both indoor and outdoor active play time will still be with only the campers in their group and play supplies (like balls, jump ropes, etc.) will be brought from each group’s room and only used by one group.  Play equipment will be cleaned / sanitized before and after each use.  There will also be active games as part of the regular daily camp activities in each group’s room.

ROOM ROTATION / CLASSES

As you may have guessed by now, campers will not be rotating rooms throughout the day like they would have in years prior.  They will have the opportunity to leave the room for both indoor active play and outdoor active play (weather permitting).  In addition, group leaders will be provided with materials, curriculum, and technical assistance to do several camp style activities during the day including things like art, STEM, music, group games, and more.

CLEANING

Perhaps it goes without saying, but as we are taking all of the above listed precautions, we are also adding to our already stringent cleaning practices.  Campers will wash hands regularly (and always before and after doing things like going to / from active play, going to use the bathroom, or even playing a group game in the classroom with any shared materials, etc.).  Hand washing will be done in the presence of staff member to make sure it is being done appropriately and hand sanitizer will be used if / when a staff member cannot directly observe hand washing (or a sink is not available).  Classrooms will continue to be thoroughly cleaned at night and areas that are likely “hot spots” like doorknobs, handles, faucets, and shared play equipment will be cleaned / sanitized rigorously.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time!

Summer 2020

Registration is NOW OPEN (AGAIN).  Please read below for all of the important updates and changes.

Lots of field trips & activities
Lots of daily activities
Lots of hands-on learning

Every week of camp is fun and unique!  Each week will feature its own theme and campers will enjoy different field trips and special onsite activities each week.

Campers will experience lots of different classes and activities each day.  Groups rotate classes every 45 minutes during the camp activity day!

While summer camp is designed to be fun, it is also designed to give opportunities for hands-on learning through science, art, creative writing & reading, and more!

Are you ready to give your child the summer of his or her dreams?  You’ve come to the right place.  Camp CUBBER, Florida’s largest Christian summer day camp offers the perfect camp experience for your rising Kindergarten - 8th Grade child.  Camp activities occur from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with FREE EXTENDED CARE before and after from 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM.

But being this big didn’t happen overnight.  Camp CUBBER has been in business serving the families of north Pinellas (and beyond) for over 25 years!  And one of the best parts of camp is that it is big enough to offer all of the great classes, activities, and events that you would expect from a top notch summer camp, while keeping group sizes and teacher / student ratios low (1:18 on site / 1:9 offsite) and offering age appropriate classrooms.

What’s our secret?  Great staff, great activities, and great programming in a safe and family friendly environment.  We work hard to ensure that your child has the best and safest summer possible.  Students participate in 1 - 2 weekly field trips plus 1 - 2 special onsite activities.  And on non field trip days students will experience activities like STEM, art, creative writing and reading, music and drama, gameroom, life skills, sports and recreation and much more!  It’s almost too much fun too fit in one summer!
